Nutrition & Shift Work

Numerous studies show that shift workers are at higher risk of developing certain chronic diseases, such as sleep disorders, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and even some cancers.

Shift work disrupts the circadian rhythm, leading to sleep issues, lifestyle imbalances, and disturbances in biological rhythms (internal clock).

Unhealthy lifestyle choices among shift workers contribute to these risks. Many engage in less physical activity and have unbalanced diets: frequent snacking, skipping meals, and consuming high-fat, high-sugar foods, including sugary and/or energy drinks.

However, adopting good habits can help workers adjust to this schedule and reduce health risks, as well as prevent potential accidents.
